At The ER

Cole started showing signs of distress mid yesterday. We waited and comforted him to see if he was adjusting to the bupivacaine not being administered anymore but he is not responding to the oral meds much and it has gradually gotten worse. We brought him to the ER vet and they are giving him a fentanyl patch and an injection to hold him over until it kicks in. I hope he feels better soon. I hate seeing him like this. He does have some fluid collecting under his incision but doctor said it looks OK and doesn’t need intervention at this point. We are to keep an eye on it for now. Wish us luck.

Oh gosh. Absolutely sending tons of good luck!!

Sometimes it really does take a lot of “trial and error” getting the pain meds managed. And once it gets ahead start, it’s really hard ro get it back under control.

Try not to worry. Yeah, right! This is yet another reason we call the recovery period a roller coaster ride! While Cole is at the vet, have them check him over ro make sure he hasn’t pinched a nerve or strained a muscle. I doubt that’s the issue and it’s most likely just rhe “normal” recovery.

I’m sure the ER is aware that he also just had chemo a few days ago in case there’s some sort of temporary reaction to that. I’m just throwing it all out there!

Just know that Cole will get last all this recovery junk! And so will you!

Keep us posted. Is Cole spending the night or coming home after the meds kick in?

    I’ll be checking in!

    Sending lots of hugs!
